Simple Mutton Ghee Roast Recipe

South Indian Mutton Ghee Roast is an aromatic mutton preparation and uses a lot of ghee. Best consumed during winters, it is a classic dish that can be enjoyed with dosa, appe, and even Malabari parotta. Ingredients



250 gms boneless mutton, 2 tbsp ghee, 3 dried red chilles, 1 tbsp coriander seeds, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 10 black peppercorns, 4 cloves, 5 garlic cloves, 1 tsp tamarind pulp, 3 tbsp curd, 1 tsp turmeric powder, salt to taste, and 1 tbsp jaggery

Step 1


Wash the mutton pieces, marinate with salt and pressure cook them along with some water for 4-5 whistles. Once done, set them aside.

Heat a pan and dry roast the red chillies in a pan.

Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a pan and roast coriander seeds, cumin seeds, peppercorns, cloves and garlic.

Now, blend the roasted spices along with chilli, and tamarind pulp and some water into a smooth paste.

Heat remaining ghee in the pan, and add the paste. Saute it for 1 minute.

Add curd and cooked mutton and mix well. Cook for 10-12 minutes.

Add salt and jaggery, mix well and cook for 2-4 minutes.

Garnish with mint or coriander leaves and your homemade Mutton Ghee Roast is ready. Enjoy!
