How to make classic Bread Halwa at home

The art of making Bread Halwa


Bread Halwa is not just a dish, it's an emotion. It's a unique dish made with crumbled bread, slowly cooked in ghee and then simmered with milk and sugar and lastly topped with nuts and a hint of saffron. Scroll down to read the recipe.

Ingredients


6–8 bread slices, ½ cup ghee, ½ cup sugar, 1½ cups milk, ¼ tsp cardamom powder, 10–12 cashews, 10–12 raisins, and a pinch of saffron

Step 1



First of all, trim the edges of bread slices and cut into small pieces or crumble them.

Step 2



Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pan and fry cashews and raisins till golden. Remove and set them aside.

In the same pan, add the remaining ghee and the crumbled bread pieces and roast on low flame till crisp and golden.

Now, add the warm milk and cook till the bread absorbs it and turns soft.

Cook for five minutes and then add sugar and mix well. Cook on low heat, stirring continuously.

Add cardamom powder, saffron, and fried dry fruits cook till the halwa leaves the sides of the pan. Serve hot.
