Can date seeds powder be used as coffee?

If you are highly addicted to coffee, consume several cups during the day and find it hard to let go of your addiction to coffee, then this article is just for you. Small amounts of caffeine might not harm the body but consuming high amounts of it can spell trouble for your health. Not just coffee, drinks like tea, soft drinks, sodas and energy drinks are also loaded with caffeine. ​What is date seed coffee?

Date seed coffee is not a new thing and has been around for many years. But it is currently getting quite popular on social media with many people using it as a caffeine-free substitute for their coffees.

As the name suggests, date seeds coffee is prepared using dates. Date seeds or pits are used for this purpose. Seeds are roasted well first to make them crisp and give them the perfect aroma. These roasted date seeds are then ground to make a coarse powder. Date seeds powder looks and tastes very similar to coffee and can be easily used to make coffee.

​Is it caffeine-free?

Date seeds powder is perfectly safe to consume and is healthy at the same time. It is a lesser-known fact that date seeds contain phosphorous, zinc, potassium, magnesium, calcium and even iron. Date seeds coffee powder contains 0% caffeine which makes it an ideal pick for those who are trying to limit their coffee intake. It is non-acidic, gluten-free, caffeine-free and gives you an instant energy kick, just like coffee!

​How to make it at home

Ingredients required- 20 dates.

Method-

  • Remove the seeds from the dates.
  • Collect the pulp in a bowl and seeds in another. You can use the date pulp in smoothies or other desserts.
  • Now take a baking tray and line it with parchment paper.
  • Place all the seeds on the tray and slide the tray into the oven.
  • Roast the seeds for at least 30 minutes and a maximum of 40 minutes.
  • Let the seeds cool down a bit.
  • Transfer them to a blender and blend to form a coarse mixture.
  • Your coffee powder is now ready to be used.
  • Powder from 20 dates will easily give you about 4 cups of coffee.
  • You can brew your coffee using the powder, but make sure you strain once before drinking.
