Food delivery girl reveals 'hardest' part of job, internet is shocked
Ordering food online is one of the most convenient things to do to satiate hunger. But, have you ever thought what all goes into the life of the delivery boy/girl who makes it all from the restaurant to your doorstep? Well, nobody thought of it until Amrita, a Swiggy delivery agent shared her first-hand experience on Instagram of challenges she faces during order pickups at malls. Scroll down to find the details.
In a recent post on her Instagram handle @amriithah, she talked about the challenges she faces in picking up orders from bigger malls. In a candid Instagram reel she described her struggles navigating one of Asia's largest malls. She explained the frustration and time it takes to pick an order, where they have to first park the vehicle in a designated area, then take an elevator to reach the food court. Once reached, you have to walk through crowded spaces to reach the restaurant, pick up the order and then again go through the same pain to reach the vehicle. She explained that all of this takes 15-20 minutes per order, reducing her potential earning. For a delivery within a 5-km radius, Swiggy pays Rs 25, which she feels doesn't justify the effort that goes into the pickups.
She further said that the hardest part is that there's no extra allowance for these mall orders. After taking the order, we have to exit through crowded areas, which delays us further. Why can't malls arrange for food orders to be collected at lower floors? Or why aren't we paid extra for these efforts?" she questioned. Take a look at her post, which has garnered 45k likes till date.
Amrita offered two practical solutions: mall authorities could create collection points on lower floors to minimize delays, and Swiggy could introduce additional compensation for riders handling these challenging pickups. As of now, Swiggy has not responded to her concerns.
Her post went viral and sparked discussions online and that is when people recalled the hurdles Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal faced recently and shared his own experience while working underocer as a delivery agent. Wearing a Zomato delivery uniform, Goyal and his wife, Grecia Munoz, set out to understand the hurdles faced by delivery partners.
During one delivery at Gurgaon’s Ambience Mall, Goyal was denied entry by security guards and told to use the stairs. Climbing three flights to the restaurant, he discovered that delivery agents were often forced to sit on the floor, as they weren’t permitted to wait inside.
In a video, Goyal noted, “During my second order, I realised that we need to work with malls more closely to improve working conditions for all delivery partners. And malls also need to be more humane to delivery partners.” Following the video’s viral success, Ambience Mall’s management reached out to Zomato, promising to address the issue. They later announced the creation of a comfortable pickup point for delivery executives.
What do you think could be the solution to such issues at malls? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
