Expired dairy products and artificial flavouring agents from 2020 found at dairy units in this city

We often buy dairy products from brands and local vendors thinking they are rich in protein and other nutrients and are going to boost the immunity and overall health. But, what if they only become the reason for illness? Well, its true and food inspection officials recently ceased many dairy units in Hyderabad for the same. Scroll down to read the details.


As per the most recent X update by Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana, the task force conducted inspections in dairy units in Hyderabad on 20.12.2024 and they found missing employee health records and fostac certificates of food handlers. The ceilings were found to be flaky at some places. Flooring was found to be patchy. Unit was not equipped with proper drains. Also, they found expired food products including artificial flavoring agents - vanilla (500 ml - expired on 10/2020), lemon (500 ml - expired on 18.05.2024) and lemon (500 ml - expired on 12/2020). The officials also made a visit to NR Milk House, Rahat Nagar, Amberpet on 20.12.2024 and they found that the internal structures made up of iron sheets were rusty. The flooring was found to be patchy, uneven with stagnation of water and was also found to be emanating foul smell. One toilet provided which opens directly into the manufacturing premises and may lead to contamination. The manufacturing and storage was being done in an unhygienic environment. The pest control records were not available and presence of pests like house flies, mosquitoes and cockroaches was noticed. The waste bags, wooden logs, plastic containers etc were found to be dumped and disposed on the floor. The food handlers were found without aprons, headgear, shoe cover etc and spitting was observed at some places in the unit. Also, the fostac certificates and employee health records were not available.


Before this, in October 2024, the task force undertook an inspection of Kohinoor Dairy Products, a dairy manufacturing unit in Peerzadiguda in Medipally, near Hyderabad. They listed several violations found on the premises. The team noted that the manufacturing unit was operating out of a shed that lacked a proper layout plan. The unit also lacked proper documents/records about milk procurement and sales of milk products. There was no quality control lab nor any external quality control testing facility. Additionally, pest control certification and pollution control permission were also not available. Moreover, medical records for food handlers were not found. The handlers did not have FOSTAC (Food Safety Training and Certification) training. The establishment had not displayed its FSSAI license in a prominent place.
