How ancient secrets help digest Indian meals

From aloo paratha to dhokla, we love all our desi Indian food. And do you also feel bloated, sluggish, and heavy after an overdose of these desi delights? If yes, here are some ancient secrets that can be your savior. Deepika Padukone's former nutritionist, Shweta Shah, recently shared some simple and easy ancient secrets on Instagram that can help digest some of the common Indian meals. The caption of the post reads, "Your favourite comfort dishes might be tasty… but your gut might be secretly struggling! Here’s how to balance them the Ayurvedic way."

2/7

Aloo Paratha

According to Shweta, aloo paratha often leads to heaviness, sluggish digestion and bloating. And to digest it easily, she suggests having ginger and black pepper tea, which warms up agni (digestive fire) and combats sluggishness.

3/7

Pav Bhaji

An overdose of this delight can lead to acidity and heat in the stomach. To digest it easily, Shweta recommends having fennel tea post meal, which cools the digestive system and prevents acidity.

4/7

Sev Puri

This popular street snack may lead to acidity, bloating, and pitta imbalance due to spiciness. To reduce the impact, Shweta suggests having jeera, saunf, and dry ginger mixed post meal. It helps calm pitta and reduce post-chaat bloating or acidity.

5/7

Kadhi Chawal

According to Shweta, this combo can lead to acidity, bloating, and weakened agni due to the sour and fermented nature of kadhi. She suggests having jeera and dry ginger tea post meal, as it reduces gas, bloating and heaviness.

6/7

Curd Rice

When consumed at night, it can lead to mucus formation, coldness in the body and sluggishness in digestion, states Shweta. For remedy, she suggests having tadka of mustard seeds, curry leaves, and ginger in it. It warms the cold nature of curd and prevents mucus formation.

7/7

Dhokla

According to Shweta, dhokla can lead to gas, bloating, and acidity due to fermentation. For remedy, she suggests having ajwain and rock salt water, as it reduces flatulence and eases digestion of fermented flours.
