Importance of avocado leaves

The irregular work hours and erratic food habits in present times are resulting in an increasing number of blood pressure cases. And the continuous high blood pressure causes the heart to work extra hard, which in this condition causes damage to blood vessels, kidneys, and eyes. Hence, it is crucial to keep the blood pressure under control, and to do so, there are experts who suggest consuming avocado leaf tea. Avocados are a powerhouse of nutrition. This creamy green fruit is rich in healthy fats, fiber, and other nutrients that support overall well-being. Did you know that the leaves of this fruit are also nutritious and can be used to make tea, which is good for blood pressure? Scroll down to read the details.

What does study say?

According to a study, adding avocado leaves to boiling water and then consuming it helps reduce blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension. The study states that avocado leaves can lower blood pressure because they contain active substances, namely flavonoids and quercetin. This study design used a two-group quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test design. The sample is the elderly who have hypertension, amounting to 125 people with purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used a questionnaire. Statistical test using T-test on blood pressure before and after the intervention was given a significance value of 0.000 (P-value<0.05).
Another study states that avocado leaf extract is rich in flavonoids like quercetin, acts as an ACE inhibitor, reducing both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in hypertensive models. Methanolic extracts of avocado leaves enhance antioxidant enzyme activities (catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase), protecting the liver from oxidative stress and toxicity, such as in paracetamol-induced damage.

How to make Avocado Leaf tea

Ingredients required: 3–4 fresh or dried avocado leaves, 2 cups water, and honey, lemon, or cinnamon for flavor
Method: Pour 2 cups of water into a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Add the washed avocado leaves to the boiling water. Other benefits of avocado leaves

These leaves are said to contain around 37 compounds, which are rich in antioxidants and natural healing properties that have been used in traditional medicine for centuries. It is found that these leaves have phytochemicals (like flavonoids and polyphenols) that act as antioxidants, fighting off something called oxidative stress. They also neutralize harmful compounds, support healthy cells, and give your immune system a serious boost. Additionally, regular use in teas or as extracts may aid digestion, reduce mild anxiety, and support liver health, making them a versatile addition to wellness routines. These leaves are rich in quercetin, a powerful antioxidant shown to improve blood flow, lower inflammation, and regulate blood pressure as well. Some studies suggest avocado leaf extract can help stabilize glucose levels, while others link it to improved kidney cleansing, stronger metabolism, and overall cardiovascular protection, highlighting its potential as an everyday natural health ally.
