Everything you need to know about banana chips

For those, who love South Indian food, banana chips are any time munching solution that go well with tea, coffee and even soft drinks. While the coconut oil and minimal use of spices make them look like a healthy snack item, they are actually loaded with sugar and saturated fat that can lead to obesity, increased cholesterol levels and more.

High in sugar

Packaged banana chips are high in sugar and also have added sugar that makes them even sweeter. According to a study, an ounce of banana chips contains 16 gms of sugar and can be the reason for weight gain, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Not just sugar, they are also high in added calories with 169 calories per ounce. That’s the reason it is suggested to avoid excess consumption of banana chips.

High in fat

When it comes to chips, they are high in saturated fat that can be harmful to the human body and result in high cholesterol levels, contributing to heart disease. It has been proven that 1 ounce of banana chips contains 10 grams of fat, of which 8 grams are saturated.

Less potassium

While a fresh banana contains 422 milligrams of potassium, one ounce of banana chips contain only 152 mg potassium. It is one of the essential minerals that plays a key role in improving the digestive system and bone health.
