Low-gas dishes apt for lunch boxes

The LPG crisis has now entered corporate houses and schools, as the school and office canteens are hit by the LPG crisis. According to reports, the shortage of commercial LPG cylinders has now impacted the kitchens of corporate houses, where people have been asked to pack lunch boxes from home. A TOI report states that schools in Gurgaon have asked parents to send food from home, due to the acute shortage of commercial LPG cylinders. Keeping that crisis in view, here we have listed easy dishes that can be packed for office and school tiffin.

Sattu Sharbat and Cucumber Paner Salad


To make this drink, you need to simply mix sattu, water, salt, pepper, lemon juice, chaat masala, and coriander leaves. Shake well and it ready. Pair it with paneer salad, for which, you need to mix paneer cubes, salt, pepper, lemon juice, peanuts, onion, and tomatoes. Give it a good mix and its ready.

Curd Rice



For this lunch meal, you need to combine leftover rice and curd, and add a tempering of oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves along with roasted peanuts and pomegranate seeds. Season with salt and pepper and it's ready.

Sprouts Chaat and Chaach


This is a protein-rich tiffin recipe, for which you need to mix steamed sprout mix, onion, tomato, raisins, salt, pepper, lemon juice and coriander leaves. Give it a good mix and it's ready. Pair it with buttermilk seasoned with salt, pepper, and cumin powder.

Peanut Chaat and Nimbu Sharbat


For this lunch dish, you need to mix roasted peanuts along with onion, tomato, salt, pepper, coriander leaves and lemon juice. Mix well and pack for tiffin. Pair it with nimbu sharbat, for which you need to add lemon juice to iced water and also add sugar or khand. Stir well and it's ready.

Veg Sandwich


This is a very popular tiffin recipe. For this, you need to layer bread slices with maoyonnaise, tomato ketchup, onion, cucunber, tomatoes, and pack it cold, or one can use an electric toaster and enjoy it with chutney on the side.

For this one-jar meal, you need to soak oats in curd overnight in a mason jar, and next morning layer it with protein powder, and seasonal fruits, seeds, and nuts, and your meal is ready.

Apple Peanut Butter Sandwich and Orange Juice

This is mostly loved by kids for school tiffin and to make it, simply layer bread slices with peanut butter and add apple slices and it's ready. One can also sprinkle some cinnamon powder on top. Club it with freshly squeezed orange juice and enjoy.

Banana Shake and Roasted Nuts

To make this, combine banana, dates, milk, and soaked almonds. Blend until smooth and pack for tiffin. Enjoy it with microwaved nuts like almonds, walnuts, and cashew mix which are seasoned with salt and pepper.

Khichdi and Curd


This is a one-pot meal and to make it, you need to pressure cook rice, moong dal, tomato, gobhi, and carrot together along with salt, turmeric and water. Once done add a tempering of cumin seeds and ghee. Enjoy with curd for lunch.

Hung Curd Dip and Veggies


To make this, eat hung curd and add salt, pepper, oregano, chilli flakes, spring onion, and coriander leaves. Enjoy it with slices of carrot, zucchini, bell pepper, carrot, and any other veggies of your choice.

Sooji Idli and Coconut Chutney

To make this dish, combine sooji, curd, salt and a tempering of oil, mustard seeds and curry leaves. Pour the batter in idli moulds and steam for 10-12 minutes and your soft and fluffy idlis are ready. Pack it with coconut chutney, for which you need to blend, freshly grated coconut, garlic, ginger, green chilli, salt, and curd.
