8 things you should not do while taking apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar has a long history of being a ‘miracle cure’ to various health problems. It goes from curing sunburn and acne to helping in weight loss and preventing cancer. The vinegar has been loved by many doctors but sadly there are no scientific claims regarding its health benefits.
Apple cider vinegar is produced by the fermentation of apple cider. During this process, the apples are fermented by yeast and added to cider, then in alcohol and finally in vinegar. It helps control blood sugar and diabetes. It is a great remedy for itchy bug bites and stings. Though it has multiple health benefits, you can’t consume it crazily. There are a few things you should NOT do while drinking apple cider vinegar.
Drink it straight
No doubt all types of vinegar taste awful. Many people drink apple cider vinegar directly in a quick and undiluted shot and then eat something else to overcome the bitter taste. This can actually do more harm to your body than good. Due to the high acetic acid content, you can risk your stomach and esophagus. This can damage your throat as well. Therefore, do a favour to yourself and dilute the vinegar in water or juice. Experts recommend diluting one part of vinegar with ten of water.
Drink it right before bed
Even if your vinegar is diluted, you must not consume it right before you sleep. There are chances that the apple cider vinegar can move back to the esophagus when you are lying down. Even if you are taking the vinegar at any random hour of the day, you should remain upright for around 30 minutes to prevent the acid affect the esophagus.
Apple cider vinegar can be used as toner for skin breakouts because of its anti inflammatory properties. It also balances the ph level of the skin and helps dry up the acne spots and remove dandruff. However beneficial it is, you should use it in diluted form on the skin. Also, minimize its contact with the skin as it can damage the skin cells and cause chemical burn spots. Again dilute one part of vinegar with ten parts of water.
Drink it right after meals
Apple cider vinegar works best when consumed empty stomach. This can result in weight loss and better digestion. Drinking apple cider vinegar right after meals can delay the digestion process by making the stomach acetic. Wait for at least 20 minutes after your meals.
Breathe it in
When you are drinking apple cider vinegar, don't smell or breathe it in. This is because the smell of vinegar can cause burning sensation in the lungs and can do more harm.
Drinking lots of it
Apple cider vinegar can do wonders to your body, but this doesn’t mean that you drink it crazily. Too much of a good thing can actually be a problem. If you are starting to drink it for the first time, it is advised to initially let your body adapt to it. There are chances that your body might not accept it which can cause stomach upset or irritation. You can start small and later adjust yourself accordingly. Even if it goes well with your body, it is advised not to consume more than two tablespoons at a time.
