Stock these glasses for your next home party

When it comes to drinking liquor, the glasses used for serving hold too much importance. The glass in which we drink water, beer, wine, whisky, and even juice are completely different. However, you don't need every type of glass to make different cocktails or mocktails at home. But, there are some glasses that you must be aware about. The knowledge of these drinking glasses will come in super-handy while planning for a home party.

2/9

Highball Glass

These are tall glasses, which are essential in every bar. These are used to mix drinks. You can also add juice and soda to it. Along with this, other Collins glasses are very popular. These two look similar, but Collins is slightly taller than High Ball. Gin, tonics, juices or any non-alcoholic drink can be served in it.

3/9

Old Fashioned Rock Tumbler

These are small glasses, which have a thick bottom. Also called a 'lowball' or 'rocks' glass. These are generally used for small mixed drinks. Their size ranges between 6 to 8 ounces. Water or classic drinks are often served in these glasses.

4/9

Cocktail or Martini Glass

The conical shaped glass is called a martini glass. A popular drink called Martini is served here. Cocktail glasses are used for drinks between 3 and 6 ounces that are often served without ice. It includes a variety of martini style cocktail drinks from the Manhattan to the Sidecar.

5/9

Champagne Glass

Champagne lovers will definitely know about it. These glasses come in many sizes. Champagne flutes are tall, thin glasses, designed to hold the champagne bubbles for a longer period of time. The Champagne Tulip is a beautifully styled glass. Its stem is thin and long and the balls protrude outwards instead of inward on the sides of the flute. It can be used to mix champagne and other sparkling wines. Similarly, a champagne saucer is a coupe glass. It is known for serving sparkling wine.

6/9

White Wine Glass

White wine is served chilled. Therefore these glasses are designed differently. They are slightly smaller and the brim of these glasses is narrow so that the temperature is preserved properly. Along with this, the delicate aroma of the wine can also be held. It has a long stem, which helps prevent heat transfer from your hand to the glass. Sparkling wine can also be served in it.

7/9

Red Wine Glass

To enjoy the aroma of red wine and to hold its flavors well, good space is required. Wine tannins, which make the wine taste bitter, also need to be smoothed. This is why red wine glasses are different and have a wider brim than white wine glasses. Apart from red wine, other cocktails can also be served in these glasses.

8/9

Shot Glass

These are not very difficult to identify and they happen all the time. These come in different styles, shapes and sizes. Any kind of shots and mixed shooters are served in these. The average shot glass holds 1 1/2 ounces of drink, while some hold only 1 ounce and some shot glasses hold 2 ounces. Shot glasses are made from thick glass. Their base is also quite thick. The reason for this is so that the glass does not shatter if it falls and breaks.

9/9

Margarita Glass

Just as there are martini glasses for the signature martini, there are margarita glasses for the margarita. It has a unique shape and is great for frozen margaritas. Its rim is quite wide, which makes it easy to add salt or sugar to it. It is not necessary that you have to have this glass, many people also serve margarita in old fashion glasses or highball glasses. These are available in small, medium and large sizes.
