Mushroom varieties stand as culinary delicacies, yet their exorbitant prices render them beyond the reach of the common man. Some of these mushroom varieties tantalise the taste buds but remain a privilege of the elite due to their staggering costs. Here are 5 popular mushrooms that are beyond the budget of common man.

Gucchi Mushroom

In India, this mushroom variety grows in the hilly areas of Himachal, Uttaranchal and Jammu & Kashmir. Gucchi mushroom cannot be cultivated, it grows on its own and is collected and dried between March and May. After drying, it is sold in the market. For one kg of Gucchi mushroom, you will have to spend up to Rs 30,000.

Yartsa Gunbu

This mushroom is known as Caterpillar Fungus in English, and is famous in Asia by its Tibetan name Yartsa Gunbu. Yartsa gunbu grows in the Himalayan peaks at an altitude of 3000 to 5000 meters in the region of Nepal, India, Tibet and Bhutan. To buy one kilogram of Yartsa Gunbu, you may have to spend up to Rs 15 lakh.

European White Truffle

It grows in the roots of the oak tree, which is a very valuable crop for the Europeans. You cannot cultivate it by planting it yourself. It grows in the roots of the tree itself and you cannot use any kind of techniques in its cultivation. Due to shortage of crop, its price is continuously increasing and to buy one kg white truffle you will have to spend up to Rs 4,50,00.

Matsutake Mushroom

Yaga mushroom grows in the Tamba region near Kyoto in Japan. This mushroom is also very valuable, the price of one kg matsutake mushroom ranges from 75000 to 1.5 lakh. It is not easily available in the general market.

Morel Mushroom

Cultivation of this mushroom is not easy. It grows in the forests of North America and Europe. The price of one kg morel mushroom ranges from Rs 36-37000.
