Things to avoid using in a blender

Cooking is called an art and nowadays there are so many kitchen appliances available in the market, that not only help us present this art in a more creative and attractive way but also make our work much easier. Blender is one of those popular kitchen equipments. With the help of a blender, one can quickly prepare purees, smoothies, or pastes. Since the blender is used very frequently in the kitchen, it is important to take its proper care to make it last long. There are certain foods which can actually damage the blender and spoil the taste of food, it is best to avoid using them. Here's the list. (Images courtesy: iStock)

2/8

Potatoes

Potatoes can be enjoyed in many ways, but putting them in a blender can make things worse. Potatoes already contain a lot of starch, and they can release even more starch when exposed to the rapid movement of the blade. In the end, your work will increase a lot and you will not get the desired result.

3/8

Frozen foods

Avoid putting frozen foods like blueberries, strawberries, vegetables, etc. in the blender as they are quite strong and it may be difficult for the blade to break them. If you really need to blend them, leave them out at room temperature for a while and then put them in a blender.

4/8

Any hot thing

Do not put hot thing in the blender by mistake. For example, most people try to smoothen hot purees or gravies into their blender, but this can build up a lot of steam and pressure, putting it at risk of exploding or spilling. Putting hot cheeses in a blender can be dangerous. The solution to this is, keep a different jar for such things.

5/8

Strong smell foods

Foods with a strong smell should also not be put in the blender. Most people put onion, garlic or ginger in a blender to make a puree. These can leave a very strong odour, which can be difficult to get rid of. Apart from this, the same smell can also be transferred to the food items that you will blend after this.

6/8

Dough

Some people try to knead the dough in the blender. It should not be done at all. This may help save time, but the truth is that using a blender for the dough will not yield the best results. This is because the blades of a blender are not designed for this.

7/8

Ginger

For quick cooking purposes, there are several people who add ginger in a blender along with tomatoes. It can release long, stringy fibres that are not pleasant to consume. This can make it challenging to achieve a smooth and well-integrated texture in the recipes.

8/8

Coffee beans

If you think, home ground coffee beans can yield the best coffee, then don't do that. As the coffee grind size impacts on its taste and flavour, and it is best done in a burr grinder. So, it is best to avoid grinding coffee beans in the blender.
