Checklist for offering Bhog to the gods

India is a place where religion is given the utmost importance. Be it any community, we perform rituals or do Pooja to offer devotional homage and prayer to the deities for the well-being, prosperity and positivity in the home. While worshipping the deities, there is a small ritual performed where we offer Bhog or Naivedyam to the gods, which is then distributed to everyone present in the ritual. This Bhog is always Saatvic and is sweet in nature such as Laddoo, Kheer, Peda, etc. However, while offering Bhog to the deities, it is of utmost importance to do it in the right manner, or else the gods can get upset or angry. Here are some of the important things to keep in check while offering Bhog or Naivedyam. (Images courtesy: Canva)

2/5

The right vessel

According to the Indian scriptures, it is said that the devotee must always offer the Bhog or Naivedyam in silver, gold, clay, or brass utensils as they are considered absolutely pure metals. One must never use aluminium, iron, or steel for offering the Bhog.

3/5

Bhog must be Saatvik

While offering the Bhog or the Naivedyam, make sure that all the foods are pure vegetarian or Saatvic, which is prepared without any onion or garlic. One can use ginger or adrak in their daily food while offering it to the deities.

4/5

Bhog by the devotee

Some devotees also have this habit to offer the daily food made in their home to the gods and while doing so, it is said that the devotee must do it themselves only and then distribute it among the others.

5/5

Distributing the Bhog

Many people have this habit of keeping offerings to the deities and not distributing them. This habit is completely wrong and the Indian scriptures also say that whenever you are offering any food to the gods, make sure to distribute it amongst the people who are present in the Pooja as keeping God's offerings for a long time brings negativity in the house. And if possible, try to distribute the prasad to the needy, as doing so can bring auspicious results for the devotee.
