The right way for consuming superfoods to control sugar spikes

Frequent blood sugar spikes after meals is a common affair that diabetic and even non-diabetic people come across. These rapid glucose fluctuations can make you feel tired, dizzy, or unfocused. And sudden crash triggers sudden hunger, irritability, and sugar cravings — leading to a cycle of overeating. Wondering what's the solution? In a recent post on Instagram, wellness and nutrition expert Dimple Jangda shared a list of four common superfoods that can help control sugar spikes naturally. According to her post, Ayurveda considers diabetes (Madhumeha) as an imbalance of kapha and vata aggravated by improper diet and lifestyle. Bitter and astringent foods like fenugreek seeds, neem, karela (bitter gourd), and jamun act as natural sugar balancers, while herbs such as Gudmar (Gymnema sylvestre) and turmeric help improve insulin sensitivity and support pancreatic function. Alongside food, Ayurveda recommends mindful eating practices—regular meal timings, smaller frequent meals, and avoiding heavy, oily, and excessively sweet foods—to prevent sudden spikes and drops in blood glucose. Fenugreek Seeds


According to Dimple, fenugreek seeds are the perfect antidote for diabetes. All you need to do is, soak one teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in a cup of water overnight, boil it next morning, bring it down to half and drink. It helps regulate the insulin sensitivity, glucose levels, and at the same time prevents post-meal sugar spikes. This is also a great way to control your cholesterol levels and improve overall metabolism.

Turmeric and Amla


Both turmeric and amla are anti-inflammatory in nature. Amla is a great source of vitamin C, which helps in boosting the immunity and metabolism and also improves how you use the insulin already available in the body. It also stabilizes your glucose levels.

Beans


In Dimple's opinion, all kinds of beans- French beans, string beans, double beans are good for controlling sugar spikes. She states that beans are a great source of fiber, they are low on GI index which are considered to be good for the human body. As per Dimple, if you take 5 string beans, slice them vertically into 10, boil them in one and a half cups of water for a few minutes, filter and drink, this is equal to 1 insulin shot for the body. It helps in improving pancreatic health and fighting diabetic symptoms.

Cinnamon


She suggests adding a pinch of cinnamon powder to fruits, vegetable salads, soups and any meal that you consume which has carbs. It is the perfect antidote for diabetes, which helps in preventing sugar spikes from the meals you're consuming.
