Foods to avoid over 40

While it is true that 40 is the new 30 with more and more men looking at least a decade younger, thanks to the emerging awareness about health and fitness, however, there is no denying the fact that our bodies no longer remain as young. Hence it is important to have foods that provide nutrition to the body. Foods loaded with fat and sugar can trigger blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. As much as you may hate it, but the truth lies in the fact that if you control your diet now, you will have healthy and disease-free years ahead. If you are a habitual junk loader, you must try to gradually cut it down till you reach your ideal weight and health parameters. Here are some foods you must completely avoid if you are in your 40s.

2/9

Artificial sweeteners

It is hard to believe but they are more dangerous than sugar. There are researches to prove that aspartame, sucralose and stevia can eventually lead to weight gain and several lifestyle diseases. They also increase your craving for sugar. You can replace them with brown sugar and raw honey.

3/9

Cocktails

They sounded cool in your 20s and 30s, but they may be a potential threat to your life now. In fact, while consuming cocktail you not just consume extra sugar, food colouring and artificial flavouring, but you also tend to consume more alcohol as you do not tend to stop at one thinking it has very little alcohol. Have a glass of wine thrice a week if you want to live long and healthy.

4/9

Artificial protein

They are dubbed as natural, whey protein or plant protein, but actually they are not. They are loaded with fat and artificial sweeteners, hydrogenated oils and flavours and can be toxic for your liver and bad for your heart.

5/9

Vegetable oil

Vegetable oils go through multiple refining and bleaching process and the end product that we get is nothing but a degraded form of fat that does more harm than good. Soyabean, corn and palm oil can be dangerous for you. Go for cold pressed mustard oil and ground nut oil, extra virgin olive oil and home made ghee and butter in limited quantities.

6/9

Margarine

They look like butter, but are dangerous. Made with vegetable oil, they are loaded with trans fast that have the potential to clog your arteries as they have propylene glycol, an artificial compound that increases cholesterol levels. Replace it with extra-virgin olive oil or home made butter.

7/9

Salad dressings

You may be happily eating salad, thinking you are eating healthy food, but the added dressings might be secretly harming you. Loaded with trans-fat, sugar and artificial colours and flavours, they are not just bad for your heart but for the hormones too. Make fresh dressings at home with olive oil, lemon juice, black salt and honey.

8/9

Canned foods

Anything that comes out of a can is not natural and has artificial additives and preservatives. Post 40, your body needs more nutrition and hence eating freshly made food is the mantra to good health.

9/9

Aerated drinks

We all know how bad they are and we still indulge in them. As per a research from Cancer Council Victoria and University of Melbourne, excess consumption of sugary soft drinks can increase the risk of cancer. They also lead to obesity, the root cause of a number of lifestyle diseases.
