Men, go bold with yellow gold
What was once believed to be flashy, blingy or loud by many men has now become a chic statement. Men are opting for yellow gold not just for traditional occasions, but even for contemporary styling. “As gold becomes a fashion statement globally, men are looking for statement pieces to match their style. Yellow gold, traditionally reserved for upscale occasions, is now boldly worn in both informal and formal settings, showing an increase in personalised designs that cater to contemporary tastes,” says Yash Agarwal, creative director, Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas Jewellers.
‘Gold is a status symbol among men now’
Earlier, men would prefer wearing yellow gold on traditional occasions. Now, they are looking for modern designs that they can wear every day. “With the yellow metal getting a fashionable makeover thanks to runway fashion, more men are embracing yellow gold as part of both their everyday and occasion wear,” says a spokesperson from jewellery brand Candere. Jewellery designer Varun Mittal, founder of Tirupati Jewels, adds, “The younger generation is embracing yellow gold, viewing it as a status symbol. It is regarded as a powerful statement metal that signifies luxury and confidence.” Abhishek Soni, managing director, The House of MBJ, shares, “Yellow gold is increasingly being embraced in contemporary, understated designs. As fashion trends have become more diverse and inclusive, yellow gold has gained popularity, especially in sleek, minimalist designs.”
How men prefer to wear yellow gold
“Men are becoming more open to experimenting with yellow gold, whether as ring bands or larger statement pieces. While for casual wear, they like more discrete pieces like chains, rings, that give a subtle elegance, for occasion wear, they look for statement brooches,” says Vandana Jagwani, creative director from Mahesh Notandass.
“Rings, particularly signet styles or those with intricate designs, are making a strong comeback, allowing for a bold yet stylish statement. Additionally, cufflinks and minimalist earrings are becoming popular for those looking to add subtle touches of elegance to their attire,” says Piyush Gupta, director PP Gupta by Pawan Gupta.
“For everyday wear, men prefer pieces that are sleek, minimalistic, and versatile,” says Varun Mittal, adding, “When it comes to occasion wear, men lean towards statement pieces like chunky bracelets, bold rings with gemstones.”

Style it right
- To wear gold jewellery without going overboard, it’s important to find the right balance. Start with a standout piece, like a striking bracelet or a sleek ring, and pair it with an understated outfit
- Opting for gold items with clean lines and minimal details will help maintain a polished appearance
- For formal events, classic choices like cufflinks or a simple watch can elevate a suit without overwhelming it
- Opt for one or two statement pieces, like a chain or a watch, rather than overaccessorising
- Thin gold bracelets, like curb chains or bangles, are popular. Stackable designs allow men to customise their looks with multiple pieces
- Subtle gold studs or small hoops are becoming more common, often worn as a single piece for a simple yet stylish touch
