The Bangalore Fashion Week (BFW), the 10th edition of which begins this weekend, attracts noted designers each year. But this year, there seems to be a fashion war of sorts. Being held around the same time is the Karnataka fashion week — organized by fashion guru Prasad Bidapa. Could this be a mere coincidence?
“We announced our dates first. Bangalore is a big city and there is an audience for fashion here, so I don’t think having two fashion weeks is a bad thing.
My event is a celebration of fashion and we are expecting at least 2,500 guests. We will not have any after-parties,” says Prasad.
Feroz Khan from Dream Merchants, who organizes the Bangalore Fashion Week, says, “We planned the event at least five months in advance. We bring out two editions every year, and the dates have been the same over the years. We can’t change our dates because someone else decides to do hold a similar event at the same time.”
This is not the first time that another fashion show has taken on BFW. A few years ago, there was a title war over the word ‘Bangalore’. This year, the name of the city doesn’t feature in the title, but will the rival fashion week still manage to ruffle feathers?
