The show for Eekani Jewels was exotic and contemporary. A collection of affordable, customised and elegant jewellery, Khyati Dani and Tarun Jethanandani’s creative talents were on exhibit. Models sashayed in white gowns designed by Kanwaljit Singh and the students of Istituti Callegari and the show closed with sexy Bollywood actor Nargis bedecked in long strands of pearls interspersed with multicoloured diamond pendants, teamed with earrings, rings and bracelets.
CKrishniah Chetty and Sons’ expert craftmanship ruled the ramp in this show. From tradition in red drapes and chandelliers to opulent necklaces, gogeous cummerbands and bridal wear, the collection was a feast for the eyes. The fabulous creations of designer Ken Ferns added to the charm of the jewellery as the lovely saris, lehenga cholis, sheer kurtas and sassy minis in black and red set the mood for the show.
The third show of the day belonged to Monica Kapur. The multi-award winning designer had audiences captivated with designs for the 21st century Indian woman and the collection ‘Aum Monica Kapur’ was a melange of traditional, bridal wear, contemporary and formal wear. Manish Goyal, looked absolutely dapper as the showstopper in a black suit with a sparkling lapel cum tie pin attached to the jacket.
Gehna Jewellers made their appearance on the ramp as Shonal Rawat glided in, wearing a scarlet gown with diamonds covering her neck, fingers and ears, just as the strains of Diamonds are a girl’s best friend resounded in the background. Showstopper Angela Johnson walked down the ramp wearing a six strand diamond necklace, cuffs, ring, earrings and a majestic tiara.
Amrapali was the next show to take centrestage. The traditional yet unconventional line took everyone’s breath away. The clothes created by designer
Masaba Gupta in shades of red, black, white and grey matched the style and design of the jewellery perfectly. Showstopper Kangana Ranaut was a vision in a black, red and gold gown, wearing a majestic trio of uncut diamond sets with jadau jewellery, earrings, hair ornaments, armlets, rings and belt.
With an ensemble created by Arati Vijay Gupta and jewellery designed by Sangam Chains, this show was pure magic on the ramp. The highlight of the show was the beautiful Geeta Basra, who looked stunning in a bridal necklace, Rani haar, jhumkas and rings teamed with a red velvet floor length coat and net lehenga.
The first day of IIJW 2011 closed with a show by Tanishq. The collection called Jewels of Falaknuma was inspired by the Nizams of the past and used awe-inspiring motifs like the crescent moon and the lotus. Designer Sonya Vajifdar’s modern royalty collection, added to the glamour and affluence.
