This is one Indian fashion show every local model would die to walk the ramp for. Its in New York, the Fourth of July week, attended by the Whos who of Hollywood and with the likes of Matt Damon, Beyonce Knowles and Bill Gates in the audience, and for which Pandit Ravi Shankars daughters Norah Jones and Anoushka Shankar will provide song and music! Theres more, the venue of the event is the UNs hallowed General Assembly Hall, because this fashion show is to do with the UN declaring 2008 as the Year of Sanitation.
And among the Indian models walking the ramp are going to be 20 women who work on the project Nai Disha of Sulabh International Social Service Organisation an NGO whose services are lauded the world over.
Delhi designer Abdul Halder, whose creations will be worn for the fashion show, said, Its for a global cause and meant to promote awareness about sanitation and the women who work to sanitise the areas where we live. There will be delegates from 192 countries sitting among Hollywoods actors, singers and dancers as the models including Sudhanshu Pandey, Sheetal Mallar, Shahwar Ali, Zulfi Syed, Tupr and Tapur Chatterjee sashay down the ramp. What can be a better place than the UN to have a special show like this, asked Sudhanshu.
