Two seasons ago Nachiket blew the fashion critics away by his coat dresses. Last season though his collection was good it did not leave an impression; however, this time, he has proved himself once again. Shy and unassuming, Nachiket is undoubtedly a genius with his appliqu and reverse appliqu work. His finish too deserves an applause.
Nikasha showed grace and beauty on the ramp with models wearing chiken chiffon with kumkum bindis reminiscent of Mumtazs bindiya chamkegi sex appeal.
Jeans are jeans unless unbuttoned by Akshay Kumar! This is how Tarun Tahiliani revealed his denim collection. Quite a star, Akshay walked the ramp as if he had been a veteran at it. The finale had Twinkle sitting in the front row unfastening his top button. I was so nervous, gushed the pretty Twinkle. Later, I complimented Tarun on his white Capri jeans with embroidered paisley. It was good to see Tarun in Mumbai. It was a pity that the capital has usurped him. He belongs here!
I sometimes ask myself, What is fashion? Is it the garment? Does the music and atmosphere on the ramp make the garment? Is it sometimes the designer? Often we fall in love with a designer and hence love what he creates. Whatever created by him is accepted and applauded: Sabyasachi for his sense of style; Tarun for his sophistication; Rohit Bal for his sense of detail and flamboyance; Monisha Jaisingh for her impeccable cut and embroidery; Ritu Kumar for her Indianness; Pallavi Jaikishen for her timeless creations. These designers hence get away with anything they create.
Manish Malhotra is another designer who is loved for his transformation and association of fashion in Bollywood. He had models strutting the catwalk in his collection, inspired by Shah Rukhs IPL team. The audience was once again, more than ever packed with the Bollywood support. The elusive and stylish Parmeshwar Godrej made an appearance. I am here for Manish, she said while we awaited the show to start. On the ramp we saw slithery-slick slide of liquid lame interwoven to the elegant austerity of black. The Knight Rider combination of black and gold marched the ramp! Manish showed a sporty prt collection which was racy, bold and superb in my opinion. A clear diversion from his otherwise pretty and feminine ensembles. Arjun Rampal, seated beside me with Mehr was cheering each garment that showed up.
Manish pulled a coup by having Shah Rukh walk the ramp for him. The audience was awestruck by his energy and aura. He walked the ramp like the king himself. He undoubtedly has a magic about him that draws people towards him. Shah Rukh graciously thanked all the sponsors and LFW. He praised all the existing models and the ones that became actors. The audience did not have enough of him. This mans ability to drive media into a frenzy, mesmerise and enthral an audience in this country, could easily knock five Naomis away!
I met Anil Chopra after the show. He looked pleased as punch. It gets better everyday, he said, as I nodded in acqueisance.
