The year is ending and it's time to go on a fashion flashback trip to understand what trends made a comeback and what new wardrobe essentials came our way.

Style it right with big clutch bags: A4-sized bags, sported at several fashion weeks became the go-to option for the chic and practical. The A4-sized clutch bag made it to the runway during quite a few shows at the Milan Fashion Week. The ‘power clutch’ or the document-holder bag, as it is being hailed, implies business, concurred many fashion analysts after the fashion week. The size of the bag coupled with its usability factor is what makes it an appropriate choice both for personal and professional appearances. (Photo: AP)

Colour me neon: The flattering neon colours made a comeback this season. Chic and energetic, the trend made a roaring return. B-town celebs in the likes of Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Sonakshi Sinha hit the floor in bright pinks and yellows lightening up the screen. While Kareena Kapoor sizzled in a blue sharara with a tinge of neon pink in her recent film 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein', Jacqueline Fernandez flaunted a neon green dress in the movie Race 2.

Applause for maxi dresses and jumpsuits: Jumpsuits hit fashion headlines way back in the ‘70s and ‘80s and they appeared again this season. From movie promotions, launch parties to just street shopping, it became fashionable to flaunt full length jumpsuits. Once reserved for hippies and free spirits, the breezy maxi dresses was one of the most versatile wardrobe essentials. Be it a casual outing with friends, a movie date, beach party, or even work, a maxi can be worn in many ways and suits every occasion and place. (Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images)

Where's my peplum jacket? After peplum tops, dresses and skirts, the style was also experimented on jackets. Celebrities like Hilary Swank and Sofia Vergara flaunted the style on the red carpet. A peplum jacket is a jacket with a short overskirt known as a peplum attached. For a modern and confident look, these jackets were a must-have this season. (Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images)

Belt it like Katy Perry: Skinny belts, others with tassels, embellished or in chains a la Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry popularised the trend in a massive way. Worn over bodices and long gypsy skirts, cinched waists, over a larger waistline or flare over a casual dress, the belt is apt when it comes to hiding the flab and bringing out curves.

Drape it like Deepika- Saris rule our movies. From Shree 420 to Chandni, Devdas to Chennai Express, the whole six yards have always accentuated the demure yet seductive image of our Bolly divas. Deepika Padukone set two ethnic trends this year — the Badtameez cocktail sari (a narrow pallu’s a must!) and the Titli-hued half saris. Indian designers experimented with the traditional underskirt (petticoat) — adding sequins, embroidering it and even allowing a little peeka-boo.

Dressed up with a shirt: One of the most effortlessly chic trends is the shirtdress. A dress, which is basically an extension of the shirt, shirtdresses are comfortable, stylish and casually sexy. This low maintenance trend is the easiest way to create fashion without spending much. Team it with a belt and heels or wedges, depending on your comfort level and discover your own innate style statement. (Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images)

Denim on denim: Wearing denim on denim is the latest fashion trend. Jeans, once upon a time, was intended only for working men. It’s no longer confined to just a pair of jeans, and today people are wearing this all-American classic from head-to-toe. (Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images)
