In her statement, the designer said, “This is a very unfortunate incident for us. Since the computers have been taken away, we are in the process of taking a stock of the inventory manually. What we do know, is that the bridal collection, along with some hard cash, is missing. The police have been very cooperative in the case and we are hoping to get (sic) some inroads on the same at the earliest.”
According to police sources, the theft was reported on Friday at the Hauz Khas Police station. An FIR under IPC Section 457 (lurking house trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) and Section 380 (theft in dwelling house or a place which is used for the custody of property) has been filed. The cost of the stolen clothes is estimated to be between `50 and 60 lakh and insider involvement is being suspected. Sources reveal that the manner in which the theft has been done shows that the person was sure about the outfits he/she wanted to steal, and the police is probing this angle.
While cases of thefts have been reported at designer stores in Mumbai in the past, the last one being at designer Kaushik Shrimanker’s store in 2012, this is the first time an incident like this has been reported in the Delhi fashion circuit.
