We caught up with Monisha Jaising to get a sneak peek into the Magnum-inspired collection.
Tell us about your collaboration with the brand. The brand and my label share a real commitment to craftsmanship. I’m naturally drawn to luxury and love to push my creativity, so the design process of creating a couture collection was thrilling. And this is why I wanted to transcend a collection for pleasure seekers. It is a decadent creation, one that takes you beyond the realm of the visual and tactile. How did the premium ice cream brand serve as an inspiration?
For me, Magnum is all about indulgence, sophistication, confidence, luxury, being flirty and desirable. It inspires you to seize pleasure when it comes, making you want to immerse in it instantly. This season, the Monisha Jaising Woman is confident, flirty, sophisticated, impulsive, captivating, elegant and playful. She is someone who is seeking pleasure in her lifestyle, unafraid of indulgences.
What new colours and styles are you experimenting with?
In fashion, we tend to focus on sight and touch. Hence, I wanted to create a collection that is a true fest of the senses. I have kept the colour palette rich, vibrant and indulgent by incorporating shades of gold, brown and white that bring alive the decadence and luxury elements the brand embodies. I pulled my inspiration from each flavour of the ice cream. Each of the ensembles personifies its signature elements — from its Belgian chocolate brown drapes swirled with pristine vanilla to the distinctive crack that are carefully contouring the silhouettes alongside glistening and golden hues.
Lisa Haydon is the showstopper for your show... She is the perfect combination of playfulness and sophistication. As soon as the brand approached me for this show, I knew I wanted Lisa as my showstopper. She is extremely expressive and can convey a lot even without uttering a word. I believe she embodies the pleasure-seeking lifestyle in every way. She speaks to the fashion forward, is spontaneous and confident. She is the perfect fashion icon and muse for the collection. What’s more, raising the fashion quotient was the brand’s delectable pleasure zone that invited fashionistas to indulge in some sinful Belgian ice cream concoctions. Models, bloggers and fashion conscious people posed for pictures while Magnum whipped up tantalising desserts that matched their quirky personalities.
