Her recent red look at the French State Banquet is rich with hidden royal details and French Easter eggs, paying tribute to the traditions of both nations.

The Princess of Wales attended the State Banquet for President of France Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, at Windsor Castle on July 8, 2025. Attending the state affair almost two years later, she marked a powerful full-circle moment, which also had a surprising connection to her wedding dress.

Kate Middleton’s red ensemble was rich with thoughtful symbolism, offering a masterclass in diplomatic dressing. She wore a dark red silk crepe evening gown designed by Sarah Burton for Givenchy. Burton, who designed Kate’s iconic 2011 Alexander McQueen wedding gown, has recently made the move to Givenchy.

Choosing a storied French luxury house added extra resonance to Kate Middleton’s outfit during the state visit. The red cape dress featured an elegant round neckline with soft pleats throughout the ensemble, accompanied by full-length billowy sleeves and slits that formed a back train. The flowing pleated skirt with a floor-grazing hemline and a cinched waistline created the perfect ball gown moment, making the princess the ultimate showstopper.



The emotional accessory addition
Kate opted for the Lover’s Knot Tiara, a beloved piece frequently worn by the late Princess Diana. This added a personal and rather emotional touch. The diamond-studded tiara originally belonged to Queen Mary, was then passed down to Queen Elizabeth, and eventually came into Diana’s possession.

Always keeping the jewellery show subtle and minimal, Kate completed the look with a dainty bracelet and a pair of diamond earrings from Queen Elizabeth’s vanity and offered a quiet tribute to the late monarch.

Leaving her locks down in a sleek, straight avatar, she wore a hint of blush with nude lips and decorated her eyes with a soft, smoky eye effect.
