Grammys 2026: Charu Suri honours Indian weaves on the Hollywood red carpet in Shruti Sancheti’s Nehru jacket–inspired look

It’s not every day that we witness an Indian-origin pianist, music composer, and producer gracing the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. Charu Suri attended the 2026 Grammy Awards, as she had three nominations, which consisted of Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, nominated for her own album Shayan; Best Global Music Album, as a co-producer on Sounds of Kumbha; and Best Children’s Album (Children’s, Comedy, Audio Book Narration & Storytelling category), as a performer/composer on Herstory by Flor Bromley.

But what she wore to the ground attracted more attention, as she proudly embraced India through its textiles in a stunning Shruti Sancheti creation. For the red carpet, she made heads turn in a statement Nehru jacket drenched in soft white and beige hues with intricate embroidery, which screamed all about India’s art and craftsmanship.

The trench-style Nehru jacket was crafted from pure Maheshwari silk sitting on a zari tissue base. The detailing involved Chanderi-Banarasi jacquard extensions with Chanderi panels, which looked lively with different types of hand-embroidered techniques. This included the intricate work of resham, aari dabka, and other artisanal details.


What caught our attention was the screen-printed jacket lining, which made the Indian craftsmanship look sleek, and next, she completed the look with subtle uncut diamonds. She completed the ivory jacket look with a panelled flared anarkali gown and made sure that the tribute to her home country reached as far as possible, but in the most elegant manner.


She completed the look with a matching embroidered handbag, opted for a barely-there makeup touch, and subtly tucked her hair into a sleek bun with a middle parting. This unexpected collaboration turned out to be so beautiful, which also made a small place in every Indian’s heart.
