Ruling in cinematic blue
Just when Cannes 2026 thought it had seen enough drama, glitter, and couture excess, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan arrived in great style, drenched in cinematic blue, and instantly claimed the spotlight. Draped in a breathtaking blue ensemble, she brought in an old-Hollywood grandeur with an unapologetic diva energy and showed who’s the ultimate queen of Cannes.
The kind only Aishwarya can serve
This year, that legacy enters a new chapter as Amit Aggarwal creates a custom couture look for her appearance at the 79th Cannes Film Festival. Over the last two decades, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s appearances at Cannes have come to represent a distinct space within global red-carpet fashion – one rooted in reinvention, individuality, and theatricality. For this year’s appearance, Amit Aggarwal designed Luminara, a couture creation centred around the idea of light in motion. The piece explores light not simply as illumination but as energy, movement, and force, translated through sculptural construction and engineered craftsmanship.

A vision of 1500 hours
The signature Crystal Vein embroidery technique is an example of work that has been done for over 1500 hours by Amit Aggarwal. This technique is at the heart of the design. The embroidery consists of hundreds of small crystals that have been sewn onto the fabric by hand. The crystals are held together by an intricate structure that allows the crystals to be embedded across the fabric in veins and also gives the effect of illuminated pathways across the fabric. The technique is designed to work with the movement of the fabric and reflect light. The embroidery gives the fabric a quality that resembles movement.

The kind of inspiration that moves with you
The silhouette draws from biomimicry, a key inspiration for Amit Aggarwal’s work. Structured wing-like extensions emerging from the shoulders evoke movement and propulsion, while contouring the body with architectural sharpness. Rendered in an abyss blue, the couture piece references cosmic depth and the infinite nature of light travelling through space. Every surface of the garment has been constructed to respond to illumination, allowing the piece to visually evolve under different lighting conditions.

The styling was the cherry on the cake
Aishwarya went all in with her startling look and kept a heavy makeup glowing base with rosy cheeks, mauve-hued lips, defined eyebrows, sharply contoured cheeks, and soft eyeshadow with her signature winged eyeliner. She kept her wavy locks open and completed the look with a stunning sapphire and diamond choker-style open necklace with matching statement rings.

What the designer had to say
Amit Aggarwal talked about the experience and said, “Aishwarya has always approached Cannes with a strong sense of individuality and evolution. With Luminara, Mohit, and I wanted to create something that felt less like a garment and more like an energy field around her. The piece explores the idea of light as strength, movement, and transformation while honouring the extraordinary radiance she has carried through decades on the global stage.”

The queen of Cannes has finally arrived
From every pose to every swirl in this Amit Aggarwal creation, her sapphire-toned glam look screamed main-character energy like no other. While the other celebrities chased the usual corset and voluminous trends, she reminded the world why the Cannes red carpet has long been her personal kingdom.
