The expanding range of all that’s orange
If the recently-concluded Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) is anything to go by, then the colour orange is a must-have in your wardrobe.
While most designers used the colour generously in their clothes, others used only a hint of it. Whether it was an orange dress, or orange footwear, or orange lips, or orange hair accessories, none could evade it.
Says designer Tanvi Kedia, “Orange colour is going to be big in the Autumn/Winter season.

Warm tones like peach, orange just liven up an outfit. Even if you wear a simple black jacket and add a dash of orange to your dress, it just does the trick.” Corroborates Charu Parashar, who chose orange lip colour for her models, “The colour has a lot of inspiration from the ‘60s. Orange was used hugely at that time; it is now coming back. It looks very chic and glossy.” But aren’t orange lips a tad too loud? “If you carry an otherwise nude look, that is toned down eyes and cheeks, but orange lipper, then you’re ready to look like a diva,” she said.
While everyone thought the colour best suited the girls, designer Manish Malhotra and duo Dev and Nil used orange in their men’s collection too.
It is now that the Indian designers are calling orange the ‘it’ colour for the Autumn/Winter season, their international counterparts declared that last year for spring 2011. Labels like YSL, Prada and Gucci used the colour extensively in their collection.
So the next time you go shopping, make sure you buy something orangy for yourself.
