Starting your heels journey? Take tips from these 10K-a-day pros
Heels are their bread and butter. At fashion weeks, models are often seen running in heels from the green room to rehearsals and walking effortlessly, show after show. With their step count easily hitting 10K during these intense days, models share how anyone can begin their own journey with heels.
‘Start small and find the right fit’
“Start small and find the right size. Invest in a good pair to avoid injuries,” models advise.
‘Take inspiration from Victoria Beckham—does she ever get out of heels?’
Model Deepti Gujral says heels are a way of life. “For our shows, heels have to be comfortable and sturdy. Designers have certain requirements, and we follow a protocol,” she says. “If you’re starting out, begin with wedges. Once you build balance, move to two-inch heels, and gradually to stilettos. Victoria Beckham is a great example—does she ever get out of her heels?”
She laughs, “I easily finish 20K steps during fashion weeks. If not 20, then definitely more than 10K!”
‘Choose the right fit, or regret it later’
“Always try the heels before buying. Personally, I prefer stilettos—they make your posture upright and elegant,” says model Kanika Dev.
‘A good pair will never hurt you’
Model Daman Brar agrees that comfort is everything. “A bad pair of heels can mess up your back for the whole day. Many replicas lack structure. Start small—maybe a two-inch heel or raised platform—and work your way up to 3.5 inches over time. And walk heel to toe. No tiptoeing!”
She adds that she prefers pencil heels without a front base for a sleeker look.
‘Invest in comfort—not just style’
Model Preeti Singh highlights how heels affect more than just appearance. “Your heels impact your body, your posture, everything. A good pair isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. You’re not wasting money; you’re saving your back.”
‘Don’t see heels as torture’
Model Pratika Saxena, who jokes she could run a race in heels, says, “I’m always in heels during fashion weeks because they make me look taller. I must be doing 10K steps daily during fashion weeks! Don’t see heels as torture—see them as a symbol of confidence. Sure, they can hurt, but the right brand and the right fit make all the difference. And after a long day, I soak my feet in salt water—it helps!”
