In his address, PM Modi noted the common perception of mini skirts as emblematic of modernity, juxtaposing this with the depiction of similar attire in centuries-old sculptures adorning the temples of Konark. He pointed out the presence of statues sporting mini skirts and accessories akin to purses, illustrating a long-standing tradition of fashion consciousness in Indian culture. “Many people consider mini skirts to be a symbol of modernity," PM Modi observed. “But if you go to Konark, you will see statues in the centuries-old temples sporting mini skirts and purses on their arms,” he was reported as saying.

The Prime Minister's remarks came as he presented the Heritage Fashion Icon award to Janhvi Singh, a 19-year-old content creator known for her advocacy of spirituality and traditional Indian textiles. Singh's focus on promoting indigenous attire resonated with PM Modi's call for a resurgence of Indian wear on the global stage.

Highlighting the potential of Indian fashion in the international market, PM Modi urged for a reinvigorated emphasis on traditional clothing to showcase India's rich cultural identity worldwide. He underscored the importance of leveraging creativity for constructive transformation, a sentiment echoed by the government in its statement regarding the purpose of the National Creators Awards.

The awards ceremony aimed to recognize outstanding contributions across various domains, ranging from storytelling to environmental advocacy, education, and gaming. Alongside Janhvi Singh, notable recipients included Pankhti Pandey, honored for her environmental activism, and Keerthika Govindasamy, recognized for her storytelling prowess. Singer Maithili Thakur received the 'Cultural Ambassador of the Year' award, while Gaurav Chaudhary and Kamiya Jani were celebrated for their contributions in the tech and travel categories, respectively.
