Tired of straggly, wispy hair? Try these dos and flaunt sexy summer stylesSummer’s here and how! It is not uncommon to see women with their hair piled in a knot in Mumbai's sweltering heat. However, summer is no excuse to look shabby. Look stylishly messy! Here are some fuss-free DIY hairstyles to dress up your crowning glory in:
Fake a French braidTease the hair above and around your ears with a tail comb.
Take a section of hair from the front from temple to temple (approximately the point where your eyebrows arch) like you would for a french braid.
Now twist this section and push it ahead to create a bump and pin it in place. Take one inch sections and repeat the process of twisting and pinning until you reach the nape of your neck. Braid the rest of your hair into a loose plait. End with a hair spray.
This hairstyle is great for people with limp hair as it creates an illusion of instant volume.
Out-of-the-bed wavesApply a generous amount of mousse to damp hair. Take one or two inch sections of your hair and curl them using a large curling iron. Run your fingers through the curls to loosen them and make hair look windswept and natural. Use a hairspray to set the look.
This is ideal for people with fine hair as bedhead waves add a lot of texture to hair.
Aao twist kare:Take a middle parting and take a three inch section from around the temples on each side. Twist this section inwards until you have twisted the whole length of the hair. Pull both the twists at the back of your head and pin them with bobby pins. The bobby pins should point upwards so that the hair doesn’t fall out and the twists will stay securely in place. You can tease the rest of your tresses with a tail comb to get a relaxed bedhead look.
If you’re the kind of person who has a lot of baby hair around the hairline and likes to keep the hair off your face, this hairstyle lays emphasis on your face by pulling all the fuzz away from it.
Milkmaid braids with a messy bun:Part your hair in the middle, make one thin braid on both sides and pin them securely at the back of the head. Gather the rest of your hair and tie them up in a ponytail with a scrunchy. Now twist the the ponytail around the scrunchy such that it looks like a doughnut and secure in place with an elastic band. Loosen up the hair at the sides and pin in place with bobby pins. Remove small strands of hair near the nape of the neck and from the bun to give it a lived-in look. Set the look with a hairspray.
You can also opt for only one braid but keep it loose and unstructured and opt for a low side ponytail instead of the bun to sport a bohemian look.
Half up half down:Take half your hair and tie it up in a ponytail. Part the ponytail into two equal halves and braid them. Wind these braids around the base of the ponytail in opposite directions and pin them in place such that it looks like a braided bun. If you have the patience, try making more braids than two.
Accessorise your look:When it comes to accessorising the sky is your limit. You can use hair bands to glam up your look. Wear a thin gold hairband alongwith a messy bun to get the 70s Hollywood diva-esque look. When you section your hair in three parts to braid it, use a string of small pearls or beads in a one section. When your braid is done, you will see that the pearls or beads add a touch of glamour to your regular braid.
