Look who’s jumping the bandwagon

The city suddenly seems hooked to the jumpsuit, a fashion trend which has been made popular by Hollywood and B-Town celebs
Look who’s jumping the bandwagon
Celebs have wowed us every time they stepped out in these stunners. And now, ladies in the city are making sure to own the ‘IT’ piece to be churned out from the fashion world — the jumpsuit.
Of course, Hyderabad is pretty late when it comes to ‘jump’ing the bandwagon, but nevertheless, every social gathering in the city is incomplete without a few ladies donning the jumpsuit.

Flattering, easy, sexy and hip — the jumpsuit is everything a fashion lover would want. The sleek silhouette and ease of movement make it a perfect pick. “A jumpsuit is high octane fashion. It has that attraction and magnetism to it that sometimes a dress can’t pull off,” explains designer Zubin Vakil. “It’s wearer friendly and versatile. It can be worn while going clubbing or at a formal setting as well,” explains designer Shravan.
But what designers rue about this latest fashion fever is the fact that it has come pretty late in the city. “The trend of the jumpsuit began way back in 2009. Since then I have been trying to convince my clients to go for it, but with no luck,” says Zubin. “At that time, the ladies did not want to be the first ones to start the trend in case it went horribly wrong. But today, I have seen almost every woman — young or old, own a jumpsuit.”
Designer Shashikant Naidu too feels it’s the case of ‘following the others’. “When the trend began, not many were feeling adventurous. Now, almost everyone has a jumpsuit. I’ve noticed that the trend is spreading like fever here. But then, that’s how the city is. They don’t follow style, they follow the others,” says Naidu.
While fit is key in fashion, the most common mistakes our ladies in Hyderabad make is donning an ill-fitting jumpsuit. “I have seen so many ill fitting jumpsuits. It totally takes away the sexiness of the garment,” says Zubin. “Sometimes they are too tight at the hip, the crotch line is low slung and the chest area is too wobbly,” he points out. For Shashikant it’s all about what suits you. “One has to be aware of her body-type first, and then decide on wearing a jumpsuit. Similarly, one has to see if it suits her personality and the color compliments her
complexion. With the right accessories, you can be a complete head-turner in a jumpsuit,” says Naidu.
“Nothing spells sexy better than a well-tailored jumpsuit. Just don’t go for anything off the rack. Custom fit it to suit your body type,” suggest Zubin. Yes, we might be a little late in the day. But that’s no reason not to be sexy and chic in a jumpsuit.
