'King of style' Shah Rukh Khan honoured with 'Global Style Icon' award in Dubai
After making the world go utterly gaga over his first Met Gala look, Shah Rukh Khan proved that he is not just the Badshah of Bollywood but also the king of style. However, the international media didn't pay much heed to the magnamity of SRK - one of the most famous men on the planet, only to regret it later.
Bollywood’s megastar is now a Global Style Icon, a prestigious title that was bestowed upon at the Dubai Mall Festival of Fashion Awards held recently. Though it is not as recognised as the fashion awards in the West, this award is just proof of how his cultural cachet is well known across the globe.
Well, surprisingly, Shah Rukh Khan topped the Met Gala’s Power Rankings for male celebrities with $19 million in media impact value, surpassing big international names like Zendaya, Rihanna, and Lewis Hamilton. He is now the third rank holder and just behind K-pop star Lisa and Thai actress Freen.
The awards night held in Dubai made a note of the emirate states becoming fashion’s most compelling region, where Bollywood’s superstar holds the front line. He shared the stage with the Italian cashmere king, Brunello Cucinelli, and was in attendance during the posthumous tribute to Giorgio Armani’s legacy.
According to a report of WWD, he said, “I’m overwhelmed to be in the company of the stalwarts here like Mr Cucinelli and Mr Marsocci. All the awards tonight are very authentic and very deserving. Mine, I do feel, is a little biased because of my friend. I don’t know much about fashion. For me, it’s always a white T-shirt and blue jeans. When I get into high-end fashion shows and functions like this, then it’s a black suit.”
Shah Rukh Khan, who has appeared in more than 100 films since his debut, has a career spanning more than three decades. He has a cumulative global box office record of more than $1 billion, and he humbly accepted the award, which in all probability is just one of many he is still to win!
