Elevating style to new heights, Air India undergoes a transformation with designer Manish Malhotra at the helm, revamping the uniforms for its cabin crew and pilots after six decades.
Uniform with a twist
Amidst speculation regarding a shift towards more modern attire for the airline's flight attendants, the new couture for both cabin and cockpit crew has been unveiled. Contrary to expectations of abandoning the traditional sari, Manish Malhotra has infused a contemporary twist, introducing trendy pant saris or sari pantsuits in three quintessential Indian hues – red, aubergine, and gold. These colors symbolize the essence of a confident and vibrant new India.

The designer took to social media to share, “I am honored to have been given the opportunity to design the uniforms for Air India. It is a privilege to be able to contribute to the national flag-bearer and showcase the elegance and charm of Indian fashion. My aim was to create uniforms that capture the essence of India’s diverse culture and traditions while also embodying a modern and sophisticated look. By incorporating quintessential hues that are symbolic to India, I hope that these uniforms not only make the crew feel proud but also leave a lasting impression on the guests, representing the warmth and hospitality that India is known for."
All set
At a rebranding event on August 10, the airline's chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director (MD), Campbell Wilson, revealed that the A350 aircraft, the first of which was scheduled to be delivered in October, will be the first to sport the new livery.
