Dungarees make a stylish comeback
Dungarees, or overalls, have been a trend among people of almost all age groups.
Worn to work, beaches, casual outings with friends and family or just shopping, it is considered one of the most comfortable outfits ever. With the summer heat ascending, dungarees have come back to life. Be it model Alessandra Ambrosio sporting a short version on a shopping trip or Bollywood actors donning different colours for film promotions and store launches, dungarees are making a comeback on the fashion scene.

Farah Magi, a fashion blogger, feels that dungarees are reminiscent of the 90s grunge era, but this season, it is more chic than grungy. “They are a summer staple and can transform from day to night look with ease. It is amazing that a pair of denim dungarees are so versatile that they can be made to look normcore, grungy, gypsy or even sophisticated. While dungarees scream laid-back cool, fitted numbers add a definitive amount of sexiness. It has taken over the western world with a storm. The easiest way to sport overalls this summer is by opting for floral printed ones. Wearing them over crop-tops shows the right amount of skin and you do not have to worry about your not-so-perfect waistline,” she says.
If you’re feeling artsy, embellish your plain overalls with fancy rhinestones to make it party ready. Send your style credentials roaring this summer by sporting pastel-coloured dungarees with block heels for a brunch look. Ripped, boyfriend styles can be juxtaposed with pointy pumps and envelope clutches for a feminine take on the androgynous silhouette.
What’s more, men can carry off this look as well. According to Farah, overalls look great on men when paired with a quirky shirt and great shoes. For them, simple designs such as dark-wash denim cut-offs or ones that are tapered towards the bottom work best. Pairing it with pop-coloured loafers, a printed shirt and a bow-tie will take the look up a notch. “The trick is to keep it simple and let the dungarees do the talking,” Farah concludes.
