But one look of the groom's sister, Mahnoor Safdar, who's the daughter of Punjab (not Indian Punjab) Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, is now being heavily criticised for a lack of originality.

Her look for Junaid's reception drew instant comparisons to Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone’s 2021 saree look, which provoked a conversation online over Indian fashion's influence across the globe. From the intricate detailing of her drape to the striking emerald jewels and an elegant updo, all looked copied from Deepika’s ethereal glam.

Mahnoor’s show-stopping saree look

Mahnoor sourced a silver-grey embroidered saree from Dubai-based Pakistani designer Faraz Manan for he brother's reception held in Lahore. This drape featured a scalloped-edge border decorated with heavy and intricate embroidery, which was next paired with a same-shade blouse. She created an air of elegance with a beautiful emerald and diamond necklace, with matching drop earrings, and a classic, sleek hairstyle with statement smoky eyes.



This pick might be a nod to Deepika Padukone’s 2021 look. Back in the year, she wore the same design and accessories - a bright emerald necklace with matching studs. This stunning look of Deepika’s was heavily appreciated in the fashion circles, which has now apparently become a fashion inspiration for some.

Social media users quickly pointed out the similarities, where some called her out for having no vision or originality, whereas others appreciated her for seeking inspiration and how beautifully she managed to carry this alluring look. However, Mahnoor’s supporters highlighted that both the divas are South Asian fashionistas, asking Deepika’s fans to keep the conversation ‘light-hearted’.
