Every year, fashion shows are eagerly awaited to set the sartorial dos and don'ts for the coming year. Designers, bloggers, fashion enthusiasts and socialites spend an entire season swearing by the trends that are set at global fashion weeks. This year's Spring/Summer 2020 shows were no different. While there were some newcomers on the ramp, trends like neon, crochet, tulle and more stood the test of time. Here's a look at some of the trends that were hard to miss at the New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion weeks this year.

STATEMENT HEADGEAR
As bags and skirts got bigger, so did the headgear. Dramatic head accessories including wide-brim floppy hats, bucket hats, over the top floral scarves and cowboy hats topped off the extravagant outfits across ramps. Many of the headgears had very little to do with the sun and more with making a statement, serving up some major inspiration for our 2020 summer wardrobe.

TULLE AND RUFFLESSpring season has always been about pastels and frilly skirts, and this year was no different. Featured in some way or other, voluminous frills and tulles had a significant presence in almost all the collections, literally filling up the stage. Many of the spring-ready outfits featured frothy tulles and frills. “I felt as the girls were walking, all the ruffle was dancing around them,” said a leading fashion designer in an interview during the show.

REDWondering which colour to sport next year? If the fashion weeks are anything to go by, red is definitely about to have its moment. While the colour palette this year ranged from pretty pastels to bright neons and even nude shades, red made a grand appearance in many collections.

DISCO TREND This year’s fashion shows took “shine bright like a diamond” to the next level. From chunky accessories and nails to metallic gowns and makeup, everything got a sparkly twist. Holographic, too, was a major hit on the ramps, marking a glittery comeback of the 90s disco vibe.

POWER SUITS WITH A TWISTPower suits have been a fashion favourite for a long time, and Spring/Summer 2020 ramp looks attest to the trend's long lasting popularity. This time though, the suits have become quirkier. From oversized blazers styled sans the pants, to satin and velvet ensembles, leading international brands showed us the many ways to sport this trend like a true #BossLady.
