In college, looking good is important to feel great and make new friends. Being confident about who you are and what you wear is one thing but being oblivious to fashion, is a faux pas you need to avoid. We put together a list of outfits and accessories you must not be seen in, if you want to be the college showstopper.
Floral prints and bright colours are no longer in vogue.
Designer Ashwin Mawle says, I would say the biggest fashion faux pas on campus would be too much colour coordination or dressing up in party outfits on campus.
Designer Zubin Vakil says hes appalled by the average college goers fashion sense. He says, In Hyderabad campuses, there are plenty of fashion disasters walking around. It is a clothing crime to wear loose, baggy and ancient clothes along with flat messy footwear. Avoid anything that is drab. Boys and girls should observe contemporary trends and add a dash of sporty appeal with a subtle mix of high street in their wardrobe. Use colour with taste, and style yourself with harmony.
From a students point of view, Shona Charkavarthy says, A lot of students wear stilettos which is so impractical. The college requires students to be mobile and on the run. While Ashna Lal, a student from NIFT says, the biggest fashion faux pas that students make is bling. It makes you look tacky and makes everyone go blind, she says. Also clothes that are too small are not really cool anymore. So the best would be wearing clothes that are casual, comfortable and yet cool.
Irrespective of being thin or plump, the youth tend to wear dresses that are either snug or oversized, not everyone can carry off every style. Ashwins advice to girls on the heavier side is that they should not wear very loose or tight tees. Skinny gals should also avoid oversized tees. Agreeing with him is final year student, Suguma Gopalkrishnan, Clothes that dont suit ones body type or personality can be odd and clothes that are overly mismatched can spoil the whole look.
In terms of jewellery and accessories, he says, Huge neckpieces, overloading a hand with many chunky bangles is out.
Keeping these points in mind, can definitely get you the right look and if you are still happy with what you think is cool, then may the fashion police imprison you!
