From the moment she landed in India wearing a long floral skirt and crisp white shirt, Akshata Murty’s sartorial choices were as closely observed as other diplomatic activities during the G20 Summit. Even before she landed here last Friday, it was being speculated if the UK’s First Lady will choose any Indian designer and she didn’t disappoint. Each of her looks was a nod to Indian designs, homegrown labels and designers of Indian origin.
A few designers share what they liked about her fashion choices.

‘What she wore was the best example of quiet luxuryNamrata JoshipuraAkshata Murty maintained a fine balance between sophistication and fashion. She embraced a sari, given her Indian origin, and I feel whatever she wore was the best example of quiet luxury. I loved the dress that she wore when she had a day planned with other First Ladies.
‘Akshata Murty made some clever and quirky fashion choices’Rina DhakaI think she looked her best in a baby pink sari. Throughout her visit, she came across as a woman who has a great personality, distinct style. Though she chose to not dress up in anything loud, she included some lovely colours in her outfits. She looked graceful even when she was dressed for her day outings.
‘I think she planned her outfits very well keeping in mind activities she would be attending’Anju ModiI appreciate the way she carried herself. Simplicity was the highlight of her fashion choices while she was here. She carefully chose what she wore and put her mind into it as each garment was chosen as per the activity she was attending. For her interaction with kids, she chose some bright colours that looked good on her.
‘Akshata Murty made a statement with her fashion and style’David AbrahamAkshata Murty’s fashion choices were very appropriate and I think that is why everyone is talking about it. She did make a statement with everything she chose to wear – from the long skirt fusion outfit to the pink sari.
