Here's what you should know about the nine colours of Navratri...
DAY 1: RED STYLE QUOTIENT: RED SARI
Shailaputri maa is the first amongst navadurga which is worshipped during Navratri. On this day, a mud pot is prepared on puja premises and grains are grown in the bowl. Devotees are seen wearing red colour on this day. Pallavi Kadam, a professional, said, “On this day Goddess Durga brings home prosperity and good health.Every year we dress according to the colours of Navratri because of the significance of each day. It is said to bring luck and prosperity."
DAY 2: ROYAL BLUE STYLE QUOTIENT: BLUE MOJRIS
Bharmacharini is the second form of Goddess Durga which is worshipped on the second day.It is believed that this goddess enlightens her devotees with great power, divinity and spiritual grace. The goddess is dressed in orange attire. The colour of the day for devotees to wear on this auspicious day is royal blue.Trupti Panse, a housewife, said, “The name Bramhacharini means the one who follows religious beliefs strictly. So even we are bound to follow the customs and traditions dutifully. As per the tradition, we wear royal blue on this day. All the ladies of our society wore royal blue coloured saris on the second day and religiously attended the rituals at home."
DAY 3: YELLOW STYLE QUOTIENT: YELLOW JACKET
Chandraghanta is the third appearance of the goddess who symbolizes peace, serenity, beauty and bravery in one's life. As per the symbolic representation of peace, she is adorned in a white sari on the third day of Navratri. Yellow is the colour of the day for devotees. Rima Patil, an architect, said, “We keep Gauri vrata or fast for the Goddess on this day.Sindoor Tritiya or Sowbhagya Teej is observed on this day where we wear yellow coloured saris. We pray for our husband's prosperity, good health and longlasting marriage.“
DAY 4: GREEN STYLE QUOTIENT: GREEN NECKPIECE
Kushmanda is the fourth form of the Goddess that is worshipped on the fourth day of Navratri.She is mainly considered as the creator of the universe. She is draped in red sari and on this day Bhouma Chaturthi is followed. The colour for the fourth day for the devotees is green.
DAY 5: GREY STYLE QUOTIENT: JUNK JEWELLERY
Skandamata is a face of Maa Durga that is worshipped on the fifth day. This form of the Goddess is known for demolishing the demons and establishing peace in the universe. She is dressed in a blue sari and on this day and the Upang Lalitha Gauri Vrata is observed. Devotees are supposed to wear grey on this day. Snehal Khatri, a professional, said, “As per the Hindu mythology, Goddess along with her son Kartikeya and a troupe of angels fight with the demons on this day. This day also signifies power and strength.Shades of grey are worn on this day which signifies black colour of demons and white colour of angels.“
DAY 6: ORANGE STYLE QUOTIENT: ORANGE POTLI
On the sixth day of Navratri the Katyayani avatar is worshipped and welcomed home as a daughter. She is dressed in yellow on the day.Devotees wear orange on this day.Nupur Sawaji, a student, said, “Orange suits best when you have to play dandiya with your friends and family. Such colours not only go well with the tradition but also add up to the vibrancy of the occasion.“
DAY 7: WHITE STYLE QUOTIENT: A WHITE KURTA
Kaalratri is the seventh figure of Goddess Durga that is worshipped on this day. She is supposed to protect all her devotees from evils. The goddess is beautifully dressed in a dark green colour on Durga Saptami when Utsav puja is performed by the devotees by wearing a white sari. Shraddha Jambhekar, a professor, said, “We prepare all the delicious food items that the Goddess loves on the days of Navratri to please and welcome her home and invoke her blessings upon us.“
DAY 8: PINK STYLE QUOTIENT: PINK DANDIYA STICKS
Maha Gauri is worshipped on the eighth day and is regarded for forgiving her devotees' sins. This form of the Goddess symbolizes tranquillity, serenity and beauty.The goddess is dressed in peacock green colour. On this day, Maha Gauri Puja is conducted and pink is regarded as the traditional colour for the devotees. Ashima Goel, an ardent devotee said, “The colour of each day is ruled by the planets or navgrahas and accordingly colours are assigned to each day.“
DAY 9: SKY BLUE STYLE QUOTIENT: BLUE JACKET
Siddhidatri is the form of Maa Durga for the ninth day of Navratri and is known to have great supernatural powers. Siddhidatri personifies all the eight siddhis (vedas or supernatural powers). As per Hindu scriptures, Lord Shiva worshipped Siddhidatri and was gifted with all the siddhis. This Goddess is dressed in purple attire and Maha Navami puja as well as Kanya puja is performed on this day. Sky blue is the colour of the day for all the enthusiastic devotees on this day.
