Happy Lohri 2026: Images, Quotes, Wishes, Messages, Cards, Greetings, Pictures and GIFs
2An important harvest festival, Lohri, predominantly celebrated in the Northern belt of the country is historically and culturally significant.
Lohri, which will be celebrated on January 13, is usually celebrated in the Hindu month of Paush or Magh, a day before Makar Sankranti.
The day holds major significance for Hindus and the Sikh community. While many mark it as the unofficial end of the winter season it's also a day when people get together to offer their gratitude and seek blessings from mother nature.
Lohri celebrations are held in a very special manner, bringing families and friends together for a gala time. A bonfire is usually lit in the evenings. Items like popcorn, gajak, revari- all winter special delicacies are offered into the pyre. Sacrificial offerings, puja, chants and prayers are also done. After the ceremony is completed, the prashad is then distributed amongst the ones present there. The pyre is supposed to signify fertility, prosperity and end negativity.
In the North, the day also sees people performing and chiming along to folk songs and tales. Kids traditionally go around visiting neighbours and relatives, collecting their 'Lohri gift'.
The festival is also celebrated in a grand manner if there has been an important event, such as a child's birth or marriage being solemnized.
While the pandemic may have dulled the festival spirit, it's still virtuous to spend the day with your near and dear ones (even if virtually) and spread joy and cheer.
Here are some lovely festival greetings you can share with your friends and family on the occasion of Lohri.
