Eid-al-Adha is celebrated to commemorate the devotion of Abraham and Ishmael. This year it will be celebrated on June 28. It is known as the festival of sacrifice and is a festival of immense religious significance in Islam. On this day, Islam believers and followers remember the prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son when God ordered him to.
Eid-al-Adha is also known as salty Eid and is much different from Eid-ul-Fitr which is called the sweet Eid. On this day special food like kabab, haleem, and biryani are prepared.
A major religious significance of Eid-al-Adha is it marks the completion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage. Meanwhile, Eid-ul-Fitr marks the completion of the Holy month of Ramadan. As per the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid al-Adha falls on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijja. It lasts for the next four days. However, as per the Gregorian calendar, the dates of Eid-al-adha vary every year; it changes close to 11 days each year. Eid al-Adha is also referred to as Eid al-Azha and Eidul Azha. It is called Eid-al-Adha or Eid-al-Kabir in Arabic. Animal sacrifices are an important part of this celebration and the meat is divided into three parts: for family, for friends and for the poor.
