'Friends from College' is Devapriya Roy's latest book. It's a sweet novel that anyone who's lived in Kolkata will love.
The book follows Lata Ghosh, a successful management consultant who's heading home to Kolkata for a trip. The story follows many of her friends as they navigate their past and present. Amongst the interesting cast of characters is Lata's ex, Ronny and something tentative starts to brew between them. There's also the perspective of Pixie, a small girl who's family is moving to Kolkata from the U.K., against her wishes. From Lata's mother Manjulika to the all her friends, the characters aren't just believable but they're likeable and relatable as well.
The writing is simple and the book is a fast read. It's great for anyone who's lived in Kolkata and those who did go to college they will no doubt think of their college experience when reading it. The book is a nice light urban fiction to read when feeling nostalgic.
