Beloved children's author Roald Dahl’s classic kid's book The Witches will now be turned into a graphic novel. Publisher Gallimard in France has struck a deal with the Roald Dahl Story Company for publishing the new graphic novel, reports The Bookseller.
The Witches will be adapted into a 300-page graphic novel by artist Pénélope Bagieu. The story revolves around a breed of Witches who look like ordinary women who hate children. The Grand High Witch plans to disappear every child and there is only one boy and his grandmother who can stop her; but how?
Talking about the deal, Luke Kelly, m.d. of the Roald Dahl Story Company, said, “All of us at the Roald Dahl Story Company are thrilled to be working with Gallimard on Pénélope Bagieu’s wonderfully witty interpretation of The Witches. We’re huge fans of Pénélope’s work, and it’s a great treat watching Pénélope evolve her fresh take on the iconic characters of Grandma and The Grand High Witch. Gallimard is one of our longest-standing publishing partners for Roald Dahl globally and it’s exciting to be embarking on such an innovative piece of publishing with them.”
The graphic novel will be published in 2020 in France. It will be released during the company’s “year of the witches” celebrations.
