How Hanuman Chalisa could accurately calculate the distance between the Earth and Sun
Lord Hanuman, one who is a devotee before being a God, is loved, respected, and looked up to by the youth of our nation. Be it his humility, his devotion, his sheer strength, or his wit, Lord Hanuman has always proved to be the best. He is not just an ardent devotee to his Prabhu Shri Ram, but is also the most loving and forgiving Lord to his devotees.
And so, in the praise of Lord Hanuman and to tell the world about his attributes, several texts have been written. And one of the most famous text is the 'Hanuman Chalisa'. A text of 40 verses, filled with wisdom and appreciation for Lord Hanuman, the Hanuman Chalisa is a text that has been researched by modern scientists in depth.
And just like many other ancient Vedic knowledge and text, the Hanuman Chalisa too gave a treasure trove of knowledge and information.
And to tell you more about ancient Vedic knowledge, a young author, Vivaan Prashant Karulkar has written 'The Sanatan Dharam: True Source of all Science'.
Here we mention an excerpt from the book with due permission from the publisher 'Ek Sath Broadcasting Pvt. Ltd. in association with - Ekvira Prakashan & Prasiddhi Seva, Pune'.
An Excerpt from the book (Chapter 7) - The Hanuman Chalisa’s Cosmic Calculation:
The Hanuman Chalisa, composed by The Great Sant Goswami Tulsidas, narrates an episode from The Hanuman’s life where he attempted to seize the Sun, envisioning it as a luscious mango. This captivating scene is described in one of the verses as follows :
“Yug-Sahastra-Jojan par Bhanu
leelyo tahi Madhur Phal Janu”
The Hanuman Chalisa’s Calculation:
Combining the time and distance units found in the Hanuman Chalisa, we arrive at a calculation that is the Earth-Sun distance :
Distance = Yug-Sahastra-Jojan
= 12000 x 8000 Jojan’s
= 96 million miles
= 153.6 million km
This exact distance between the Earth and the Sun proves the genius and cosmic awareness of The Maharishi Tulsidas that he got through the Vedas.
About the book
In the book, 'The Sanatan Dharam: True Source Of All Science', the author talks about the principles of Sanatan Dharma. The book is like a bold challenge to Western scientific theories as the author gives a compelling argument that much of modern science is rooted in the ancient knowledge found in the Vedas, and traces Western scientific discoveries back to the ancient Vedas, presenting 46 concepts that highlight their Vedic origins.

This interpretation is incorrect.Yug = yearSahastra = 1000Yojan = 8 mile (more appropriately it represents a unit of distance in this context. So someone has conveniently multiplied two different units of measurement of two entirely different physical entities (yug representing time and yojan representing distance) to retrofit a number. Also, one Yug is supposed to be 12000 divine years (which is 4320000 human years)! The person forgot that important bit too!So the meaning of the line "Yug sahastra yojan par Bhanu linihyo...', is:The Sun which is 1000s of yojan away and will take a Yug to reach!Read allPost comment
