Chuck Palahniuk, author of the well known book Fight Club, has written another novel and has a lot riding on it.

In May 2018, it was discovered that an accountant at Palahniuk's literacy agency, Darin Webb, had been embezzling him. Around that time Palahniuk admitted online that he was, “close to broke” and in a recent interview with The Guardian he elaborated saying, “Money seems to have been taken over such a long period that they haven’t even established yet how much was taken, and from what accounts.”

It's been a heavy loss and Palahniuk said that on the basis of the terms of his next book deal, and on how much money he recovers in a settlement, he might have to sell his house to stay afloat.

Besides the finanical loss, the author has had to deal with the loss of his father-in-law to cancer earlier this year and Anthony Bourdain with whom he had made a TV show in 2007.

However, Palahniuk is keeping positive about it, he told The Guardian, "There are larger issues in life – the embezzlement is dwarfed by my father-in-law’s death. And there’s the awareness that I’m the person who got me to this place, and I’m still that person, so I can still turn it all back around, and come up with something really strong and vibrant and interesting.”

His latest novel is called Adjustment Day which is a dystopian novel exploring a future where the US has been divided into Caucasia, Blacktopia, and Gaysia and, vey similar to Fight Club, there is a lot of violence in this book as well.
