The popular
Roald Dahl book 'Matilda' is much loved. With it's bookworm protagonist and all the interesting characters in it, it was relatable to many children and especially loved by readers.
It was adapted into a musical in 1990 and a movie in 1996. Now a new screen adaptation is being made and this one is based on the musical, which won several awards. Along with Hamilton, it holds the record for the most Olivier Awards won by a musical-7 and also has 5 Tony awards.
The new adaptation will be directed by Matthew Warchus, who was in charge of the original 2010 West End production of the musical.
He is the artistic director of London's Old Vic Theater. It will feature the original music and lyrics by Tim Minchin which made the play so popular.
Alisha Weir has been cast to play Matilda and
Lashana Lynch will be playing Miss Honey. Most recently the Oscar winner
Emma Thompson has been cast to play Miss Trunchbull.
