Launched in 1993, the TS Eliot prize is given to the best poetry collection published in the year.

In 'Sonnets for Albert', Joseph writes about his complex relationship with his father, who was largely been absent during his growing-up years. The judges described the book as "luminous". The book was also shortlisted for the 2022 Forward Prize for best collection.

Anthony Joseph's 'Sonnets for Albert' was selected from a shortlist of 10 poetry collections, which included five debut books. Praising the winning book, Jean Sprackland- Chair of judges, said that out of the 10 shortlisted books "our choice is 'Sonnets for Albert', a luminous collection which celebrates humanity in all its contradictions and breathes new life into this enduring form."

Each poet of the shortlisted book receives £1,500, while the winner won £25,000.
