Award-winning Indian author Amitav Ghosh's mother passed away in Kolkata recently. But with restrictions on international travel due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the New York-based author could not see her at the end.

Ghosh took to Twitter to share this sad news with his readers. Posting a picture of his late mother, Ghosh tweeted:

Ghosh has won several prestigious awards including Jnanpith Award, Padma Shri and Arthur C Clarke Award. Some of his best known works are 'The Shadow 'Sea of Poppies', 'River of Smoke', 'The Hungry Tide' among others. His latest novel 'Gun Island' was released in 2019 which touches upon issues of climate disruption and migration.

Ghosh's next three books are expected to be released in 2020, 2021 and 2022. According to a report by PTI, 'Jungle-nama' is a verse adaptation of a fable from the Sundarbans, the legend of 'Bon Bibi', which lies at the heart of two of Ghosh's novels - 'The Hungry Tide' and 'Gun Island''. The book is expected to be published in 2020 as an illustrated edition and as a graphic novel.
