Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli write a book together

Two bestselling YA authors decide to write a book together.
Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli have both written successful YA books that have done exceedingly well, though they both have different styles. Adam Silvera’s books are the sort that make readers cry. The title of his books, They Both Die At the End and More Happy Than Not, can give an idea of the theme of his contents.

On the other hand, Becky Albertalli writes sunnier books, her book Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda has a positive ending and was the one adapted into the movie Love, Simon.

It will be interesting to see how a book they both write will go. Though Alberetti doesn't seem to worry about that.

"I find it a little weird that there are a lot of comments about how dramatically different our styles are because I’ve said for a long time that I think our styles are very compatible," she said in an interview with Bustle. "I think a lot of it comes from the fact that Adam’s endings tend to be more ambiguous, and he does not lean toward the 'wrapped up in a bow' moment as much as I do. But also, the way [people] think about rom-coms, and the emotionality that comes with these love stories, is that they are not legitimate or weighty emotions. And I don’t want to say I wish people interpreted rom-coms differently, but that’s not the way I see them."

The book is called What If It's Us and is a romance between two boys, Ben and Arthur. Both authors will write from the perspective of one of the boys and the story will follow their dates and the difficulty of trying to make it work, despite a lot of things happening in their lives and mixed signals from the universe. Silvera writes Arthur's point of view while Alberetti writes from Ben's perspective.

The book released on October 9, 2018.
